From the time I was able to realize what education meant to a person in a career, all I heard from my mother’s side of the family was about the society needing people with jobs and the great responsibility that followed. Continuing to do my daily routine, on a Saturday afternoon, my father would devote to me, by sitting me down in front of the old picture frame that reminisced the treasures of his coworkers and his accomplishments. He would preach to me the benefits of what it means to be someone in the world, that is able to make a difference, one step at a time. Later, as I grew older and Universities or College took on greater meaning, my father and uncle, both alumni of the University of North Texas, took me to see their old stamping grounds.
From first sight, the university looked frightening because of its size, but with such a large school comes diversity of people and of academic and non-academic events. By attending as an honor student at Lake Worth High School, non-academic clubs such as the Bullfrog Marching Band and the FCCLA (Family Career Community Leaders of America), both of which I have belonged to since middle school, give me an opportunity to see both the hospitality world and the musical world.
These two clubs have given me a greater sense of what these careers may be like. In Band, I participated in football games and performances that created the music in life, changing the essence of someone’s ears by allowing the melody to play within. Music not only allowed me to be myself around a group of others with the same passion, but exemplified my capabilities of being unique. By entertaining others for their enjoyment, my heart sinks in with warm feelings knowing I did that, along with my band family.
Summer and vacations are synonymous, especially with my family. Does Chevy Chase and summer vacation ring a bell? With a family of six, anything is possible. There are two types of excursions that we take every year. I refer to one as my family vacation and the other as my family trip. My family vacation to the beach is an annual event, but my family trip destination is always different. This past ...
In FCCLA, I demonstrated my love for the community and care of others by taking action and donating any resources possible to areas in need, all year round, with the help of the student body. The organizations I spent my quality free time with allow me interact with people outside my own immediate environment. I meet different kinds of people, in different moods, with different attitudes, and with different values. This activity teaches me to be patient with people, to have responsibility, and to express what it may feel like to appreciate people for what they mean to us.
