Genetic Testing
The key to the future can be found inside of all of us. It is our DNA. The molecular structure holds many secrets that can and will change every aspect life. With more research of this phenomenon, it can be possible to eradicate the chance of being diagnosed of certain diseases or wipe genetic deficiencies from occurring. genetic testing should be allowed because of its medical importance, for the improvement of the human race, and for its scientific purpose.
However, many people fear this may lead to modifying the genetic traits and removing the diversity between humans, such as “Designer Babies.” The biggest fear among people is how society will react to these babies. “The technique of altering a fetus’s DNA could simply push parents to treat children as a commodity, like a perfect Build-A-Bear, rather than treat them as a gift—one that commands unceasing love regardless of how a child turns out” (“A Big Step”).
What it means to be human, may be erased from existence itself with this technology. Without nature choosing the traits, how will offspring be viewed in the eyes of the parents? And with that, will their ability to choose the traits affect how they view the child? “Will our ability to choose our children’s biological inheritance lead parents to replace unconditional love with a consumerist mentality that seeks perfection?” (Green).
The Essay on Children and the Single Parent
Single parenting begins with the divorce of a couple who have children. Approximately ninety percent of all minor children live primarily with their mothers. Non custodial fathers usually have less than biweekly contact with their children, and involvement usually declines as time goes by. Since most single-parent households are mother-headed, and have only one income, often below that of a man. ...
With the allowance of choosing traits will the stride for perfection through traits overtake the natural mindset of humans? Genetic testing is indeed controversial for many reason, some apparent and others more complicated.
With that being said, genetic testing is an import role in the future of medical industry. With better medical knowledge, humans can live longer, better lives. Through the use of genetics and technology, the possibility of medical equipment that makes the current equipment look like play toys is close. “According to the National Institutes of Health [NIH], nanotechnology could create devices capable of reporting the onset of cancer at the exact moment of molecular metamorphosis, long before today’s tests are effective” (Goldstein).
The knowledge on diseases and how to counteract them will never be looked at the same way. With great sensing technology must come great procedural technology. “Nanotechnology will also create tools to eradicate cancer cells without harming healthy cells” (Goldstein).
Technology like this would be an amazing improvement from today’s chemo, which kills all cells undergoing mitosis or dividing into two new cells. The technology would more advanced in the treatment of destroying the cancer cells. But, this technology isn’t just for cancer treatments, it is for all areas of treatments. “ It [Nanotechnology] could eventually allow doctors to save millions of lives and prevent entire populations from contracting various diseases” (Goldstein).
If millions of lives will be able to be saved using this technology, then this is truly great compared to our current tech and will only continue to improve. The most adequate benefit from genetic testing is in fact its enhancements of medical supplies and technology.
Moreover, genetic testing can improve the human race, not only personal traits like “Designer Babies”, but also for other traits, such as intelligence. “Why should a child struggle with reading difficulties when we could alter the genes responsible for the problem?” (Green).
With doing so, children can be more susceptible to growing intellectually smarter. With that humans will be progressing on the path of intelligence. With smarter generations, new technology will be invented and further improve the quality of life. Genetic disorders play a huge role in the devolution of learning, and if it were able to be prevented, there would be that many more mind evolving in this world. “They [Autism Genetic Resource Exchange] reported earlier this year that they had identified a 25-gene area on chromosome 16 that, when deleted or duplicated, increases susceptibility to developing autism” (“Science Surrounding Genetic”).
The Essay on Can You Imagine Your Life Without Technology?
I’ll See You on the Dark Side of the Tech Can you imagine your life without technology? Nearly everybody thinks that technology can be the greatest thing in the world, seeing that it can transform a person’s life, turning them easier to do daily tasks. It’s not that uncommon to see in a family dinner table, the very little children with cutting-edge tablets or smartphones playing games or ...
With know more about genetic disorders, prevention and correction will let more children have a better quality of life. Millions of people are diagnosed with the disease diabetes, which a severe disability. “Diabetes is a big problem in the world and it severely lowers the quality of life for the victim, even reducing the life expectancy. With more genetic research, this disorder may even be preventable” (Green).
The amount of people that would benefit from something like this is unreal, and the lives of those people would be dramatically improved. Quality of life is important to everyone and will be improved through genetic testing.
Furthermore, genetic testing has its own importance in the scientific community. Almost every science interacts with others sciences in some way. The building blocks of Life lay on a single molecule: DNA. “Even though we already know a lot about DNA, there is still much to learn. And those unknown areas hold information about many aspects of life” (Goldstein).
DNA holds many secrets, and within those secrets lay answers. Answers to not only life but to the universe. There are various possibilities to what this molecule can reveal to explanations of life. “With the mapping of the human genome, it was not only a big leap for the genetic research area, but also for other areas, such as biology, because genetics interacts with other areas of science as well” (“Science Surrounding Genetic”).
Some theories of an area can involve other areas, so with genetic testing, its not only gaining more knowledge for itself but also for other areas that are involved.
All in all, genetic testing is important due to the fact of its medical purpose, its enhancing qualities, and for its scientific relevance. And as like Elon Musk one said, “With DNA, you have to be able to tell which genes are turned on or off. Current DNA sequencing cannot do that. The next generation of DNA sequencing needs to be able to do this. If somebody invents this, then we can start to very precisely identify cures for diseases,” in order to modify genes there must be more research and testing.
The Essay on Dna Testing Database Police Results
DNA testing has overthrown the way police collect evidence in a number of criminal cases, especially rape and murder and consequently had a large impact on many past cases. However there are many disadvantages to DNA testing, such as a challenge of accuracy, the costs of DNA testing and the possible misuse of DNA. The prospect of a national DNA database in Australia has been heavily criticised ...
