I would like to thank the admission committee for considering my application. It is my sincere hope that you will grant me the opportunity to attend in your fine school.
Let me highlight briefly the background that would help why I would be the best candidate for your school. My name is unknown who was born and raised in Ethiopia. I left my country, and fled to Kenya interrupting my University education in 1993 due to worsen political turmoil in Ethiopia. I was granted asylum and considered political refugee and taken to refugee camp in Kenya. It was unbearable to live in loathsome and dreadful Kakuma Refugee camp for three years especially for ex-university student who had no prior experience in terrible and insecure environment eating malnourished food and spent the night in Tent .It was only for tough minded individuals that can survive and fit in the cursed land. In spite of the fact that it was unthinkable for refugee to plan for tertiary level of education living in that condition, I kept on searching a way out realize the dream .Three years later I managed to secure the scholarship through Windle Charitable Trust in Daystar University. Even if one assured scholarship and admission, it was hard to compete and graduate from the progaramme given the insecurity, home sickness, cultural differences, and so forth. Nonetheless, I was able to manage to be one of the top students in the first and second year. I was honored to be in dean’s list two times. I was encouraged and promised to maintain my success. Two years later, unfortunately I was depressed and adversely affected by bad news happened on family members back at home in the middle of 1998.Thus, I felt much insecure and failed to proceed my education effectively. Though I was advised a number of times to withdraw by my professors, I decided otherwise. Thus, My GPA was terribly affected and had shown sharp a downward trend. I was hospitalized two times and counseled for longer period of time and later recovered .As it is indicated on my transcript, later my GPA substantially improved and reached where it was before.

After the completion of the undergraduate programme, I joined masters’ programme in one of the best university in southern and east Africa, University of Nairobi, in Economics .I had special gratitude for German government who offered me the full scholarship. I right away decided to study Economics for Masters’ programme. Economics was not only needed time, but your quantitative, analytical skill. During that pressing time, I learned that as long as one get determined, goal oriented, hard working, definitely success is there along the way.
. When introduced economics in high school, I realized it interestingly qualified as a subject of both arts and sciences. It was an area defined by precise rules, principles and axioms yet there was tremendous scope for self expression in the form of interpretation and analysis. This facet of economic intrigues me very much and decided to pursue further studies in economics. Unfortunately, economics was not offered as a department in university where I have gone for undergraduate. During my masters’ programme, though totally new, I equipped myself as best as I could, with various tools used in economic analysis. The programme was rigorous and extremely demanding; some times I spent all the weekends reading various books, document, research publications, and held group discussions. International economics and monetary economics are areas where I would really like to explore. I am fascinated by comparative advantage models and theories. I believe that the models can be effectively used in continental and world economy trade as many policy issues such as negotiations over mutual reductions in tariffs ,formations and preservation of custom unions, establishment of cartels in the case of internationally traded goods.

The current “regionalism versus multilateralism” debate holds its own attraction. It should be interesting to analyze the trade diversion effects of preferential trading agreements and also their impact on multilateral institutions like GATT. The strategic trading that takes place in foreign exchange markets and the variety of auction like mechanisms that have been used for foreign exchange trade, especially in developing countries, are intriguing. During my graduate studies, I aimed to equip myself with some advanced tools and develop my analytical and research capabilities. I wanted to get an excellent command over econometrics to be able to confront stochastic statistical data with exact models of economic theories and also for empirical verification of other models, which might otherwise be set in partial equilibrium framework. I expect to emerge as an economic engineer and an expert in model building. Econometrics per se, also interest me as a subject of economics and I might like to research in econometric methodology. I want to be an academic economist and researcher in economic policy analysis. I carried out my M.A thesis on Ethiopian private investment and economic Liberlisation. The study focused and analyzed on the country’s private investment and free market system for post 1991 but examined the back ground economic system beginning from 1960. The research investigated the impacts of macro economic variables and economic reforms on private investment in the country. The study employed a modified version of flexible accelerator model, which is adapted to incorporate some of the structural and institutional characters tics in developing countries. The outcome of this study would be deemed useful for Ethiopian policy makers in designing and formulating polices that would create an enabling environment for the flourishing of private sectors investment so as to boost growth and development of the economy.

Soon after graduation, I joined the JRS long distance education organization as Economics tutor teaching undergraduate students, who pursued their degrees from University of South Africa, I micro and macro economics, monetary and International economics, and mathematical economics. Fortunately, the programme was new that needed a lot of planning, organization network, and research. I along with others worked hard to make the new born baby on feet. The outcome was extraordinary and impressed many; with in short time the organization expanded the training programme by opening more training centers.
In conclusion, I presumed that I am person with can do attitude, performance driven with new and creative ideas .I am always a person who make a calculated move. I often think I am person who wanted to make a difference in the lives of society .I hope you will understand when I apply to your programme,I have carried out a research about the programme ,the university, faculty ,and career opportunity .I encourage the graduate admission members to consider my application for admission as I am the candidate ,unlike to others, who have gone through the good ,bad and the ugly situation of life ,and managed to sucessed at last. Last but not least, Consider a person who learned from the past on the top of he has already and develop sky is a limit attitude. I will be an asset not only to the University of Arizona but also to the country of U.S.A.
With all Regards,
