He is looking forward to meeting with your members to discuss his plans for the 12 th District. Even more importantly, he is anxious to have your members share their concerns and desires for the 12 th District.
A portion of Candidate Wright’s issue statement follows to give you some idea of his goals and expectations. Candidate Wright believes that a strong educational system, a healthy economy, and a tough stand against crime, and strong families are the keys to progress. o A strong public education system leads to a productive workforce, and healthy economy. Every citizen is entitled to quality education. State and local governments must work together to insure this for all students. Our teachers and staff are entitled to competitive salaries.
Additional educational areas that need to be addressed include teacher training, class size early childhood education, and greater parental involvement. o The citizens of Virginia deserve informed and representation. Business is the lifeblood in Virginia. We must promote new industry based on a statewide plan for economic development. As the economic base increases, we must support existing business, which will encourage local growth and small business ownership. We need to encourage new businesses that will provide job opportunities to local residents.

o he candidate’s position on crime is a straight-forward common-sense approach. Criminals must be punished! Those criminals who commit violent crimes should serve their full sentences without parole. In dealing with the crime problem, we need to identify activities that will focus on juveniles, whose crime rate has increased over 50 percent in the past two years. Any effective program to treat crime must consider the causes of crime including inadequate education, poor housing, limited job training, unemployment, and so forth.
State government must take a leadership role in making our communities fare. o As your senator, I will ensure that laws already on the books to protect women and families will be given the same priority with regard to funding and enforcement as all other laws. o Candidate Wright also believes that school- based delivery of health and welfare services should be encouraged, government would not interfere with a woman’s right to make decision about reproduction, government should continue to enforce child support laws and that teen pregnancy prevention programs should involve partnerships among schools, families and community groups. Candidate Wright believes that we can all pull together and effect the needed changes that will enhance the lives of citizens in our district.
